Man’s place in the world is to be strong, confident, dependable – providers. There is little place for vulnerability. As a result, men often hide their feelings from family, friends, and even themselves, to avoid the stigma of being “un-manly”.
Feelings don’t go away though, and if not dealt with, can often to lead to things like workaholism, alcoholism, sex or other addictions, depression, isolation, rage, difficulty with intimacy, or abusive behaviour.
But how would it be to have a pathway out of the emotional darkness? In ancient times, men used to hunt together and fight together. But how many of us have a strong male group to bond with? To talk and interact in a way that is totally different for NOT having women around? To share and support each other; to be a band of brothers?
Over the years, I have been struck by the depth of emotion, healing and spiritual connection that can come from men working together. To talk about men’s stuff, and get support from other men. It is unquestioningly powerful.
