Jekyll and Hide: How to Work with the Shadow

Once the shadow is outed from its hiding place in our psyches, it loses its power to sabotage our and others’ lives.

In this experiential workshop we will clarify what is meant by shadow and look at how it manifests inside us. We will learn to befriend our own dark places and find techniques to build trust and empathy.

We will then examine how it shows up in our clients and look at some of the methods we can employ as therapists to build trust and in so doing get permission to explore some of the murky places our clients inhabit.

“Jekyll and Hide” is a book being currently written by Malcolm and William Murtha, which has the aim of educating us in the understanding of shadow.

RECORDING

This workshop will be recorded and you can use the ticket function to pre-purchase the recording before the event. This will be useful for colleagues who are not able to attend the event live and also for those who attend the event live and want to watch it again.

ZOOM

This workshop will be hosted on the Zoom meeting platform where we will use our cameras and microphones to interact with each other as a group.

Malcolm Stern

Malcolm Stern has worked as a group and individual psychotherapist for more than 30 years. He was a co-founder of Alternatives at St James’s Church in London and runs groups internationally.

He is the author of Falling in Love / Staying in Love (Piatkus 2004) and Slay Your Dragons with Compassion ( Watkins 2020). He co-presented Channel 4’s relationship series, ‘Made for Each Other’ in 2003 and 2004 and sailed on the ‘Rainbow Warrior’ with Greenpeace in the 1980s. The book he is currently writing is an exploration of the shadow and its necessity in our evolutionary development.
